CAE Healthcare's bedside ultrasound e-Learning curriculum and seminars endorsed by the Canadian Critical Care Society

Montreal, Canada, November 15, 2011 – (NYSE: CAE; TSX: CAE) – CAE Healthcare today announced that the Canadian Critical Care Society (CCCS) has endorsed its bedside ultrasound e-Learning curriculum and seminars and that the two organizations will work together to help promote and implement point-of-care ultrasound training in Canadian hospitals.

This initiative joins a growing body of evidence supporting the adoption of dedicated ultrasound devices in both acute and non-acute care settings. Research has demonstrated that the use of such devices speeds up and improves the management of a variety of patient conditions, and can serve as an invaluable tool for numerous clinical specialties including critical care, emergency medicine, internal medicine, anesthesiology, trauma and other disciplines.

"It’s clear that point-of-care ultrasound is rapidly becoming a standard of care to decrease the risks of complications related to invasive procedures, to improve practitioner efficiency and to improve overall patient care,” said Yanick Beaulieu, MD, FRCPC, intensivist and cardiologist, Director of the bedside ultrasound curriculum at Montreal’s Hôpital Sacré-Coeur and Director of ultrasound education at CAE Healthcare. “These improvements could eventually lead to a decrease in morbidity and mortality, as well as a decrease in costs. This is exactly why we have designed a complete multimedia program on bedside ultrasound imaging that teaches residents and clinicians from various specialties the skills they need to adequately perform a bedside ultrasound examination."

"The CCCS is pleased to collaborate with CAE Healthcare to offer this training to our members," said John T. Granton, MD, FRCPC, President of the CCCS. "It is the responsibility of the healthcare system’s governing bodies to establish an acceptable standard of care, and to provide relevant education and training programs to their residents, fellows and ICU consultants. We recognize the need to encourage physicians to participate in quality educational programs that have been proven effective and are supported by the scientific literature and societies. Developments in e-learning and simulation technologies are creating the groundwork for a revolution in bedside ultrasound education, coinciding with the growing need for training in this discipline. One significant benefit of the CAE ultrasound e-Learning training solutions is the flexibility that they allow for both individuals and institutions, placing an emphasis on learning at "any time, any place, any pace". These educational solutions enable healthcare professionals to use bedside ultrasound to quickly identify and interpret the presence of critical pathologies, apply critical thinking to diagnoses and optimize treatment, ultimately leading to better patient care and outcomes."

"We are pleased to assist the CCCS in setting a new standard for ultrasound skills training in Canada by providing widespread access to an innovative curriculum," said Michael Bernstein, President of CAE Healthcare. "With proper training in ultrasonography, critical care physicians can achieve a high level of competence, reduce procedural times and avoid complications, which will ultimately result in better patient outcomes."

With contributions from international opinion leaders and society endorsements, CAE Healthcare’s bedside ultrasound curriculum is quickly becoming a global leader and has already been successfully implemented in many medical centers around the world. The growing adoption of these training programs reflects the increasing number of research studies validating the use of bedside ultrasound for the improvement of patient care. CAE Healthcare's bedside ultrasound curriculum is already a required component of the American College of Chest Physicians' (ACCP) certification process in critical care ultrasonography.
