Curriculum Content

The current version of the e-LMS curriculum is composed of 7.5 hours of focused transthoracic echocardiography, of 8 hours of focused transesophageal echocardiography, of 8 hours of general ultrasonography content (Assessment of Central and Peripheral Vessels, Assessment of the pleural space and lung) and of 2.5 hours of ultrasound-guided peripheral vascular access

Cardiac Ultrasound

Focused Cardiac Ultrasound Study - 7.5 hours of content divided in 6 courses and 36 modules:

Course 1:
Ultrasound and echocardiography basics and instrumentation Basic principles and 2-D echo
Course 2:
Ultrasound and echocardiography basics and instrumentation Color Doppler, M-mode and harmonic imaging
Course 3:
Transthoracic echocardiography Parasternal area: Long-axis view
Course 4:
Transthoracic echocardiography Parasternal area: Short-axis views
Course 5:
Transthoracic echocardiography Apical area: 4-chamber and 5-chamber views
Course 6:
Transthoracic echocardiography Subcostal area: 4-chamber view, inferior vena cava view, abdominal aorta view (including abdominal aortic aneurysm coverage)

Focused Transesophageal Echocadiography - 8 hours of content divided in 11 courses and 36 modules:

Course 1:
Part 1: Basics principles and 2-D echo
Course 2:
Part 2: Color Doppler, M-mode and Harmonic imaging
Course 3:
Introduction to transesophageal echocardiography
Course 4:
Introduction and overview of basic transesophageal echocardiography views
Course 5:
Mid-esophageal four-chamber view
Course 6:
Mid-esophageal inflow-outflow view
Course 7:
Mid-esophageal two-chamber view
Course 8:
Mid-esophageal long-axis view
Course 9:
Transgastric views
Course 10:
Extracardiac views
Course 11:
Correlation between transthoracic and transesophageal views

General Ultrasound

Assessment of central and peripheral vessels - 5.5 hours of content divided in 3 courses and 26 modules:

Course 1:
Introduction
Review of the literature
Ultrasonographic examination of the main vessels: Internal jugular, Subclavian, Femoral, Peripheral veins
Course 2:
Anatomical variants, thrombus, and other anomalies of the vascular system
Assessment of the lower extremities for deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
Course 3:
Ultrasound-guided line placement

Assessment of the pleural space and lung - 2.5 hours of content (7 modules):

Course 1:
Introduction
Ultrasound assessment of the pleural space for effusion
Ultrasound-guided thoracentesis

Ultrasound-Guided Peripheral Vascular Access

Ultrasound-Guided Peripheral Vascular Access - 2.5 hours of content (12 modules):

Introduction
Review of the literature
Basic ultrasound concepts
Course 2:
Ultrasonographic examination of the main peripheral vessels of the arm
