Welcome to the CAE ICCU Learning Center, your online resource for continuous education for bedside ultrasound.

Enhance your interpretation skills through our interactive resources, where you can:

The Learning Center Features:

Clinical Cases

The goal of this section is to test your knowledge on the different aspects of bedside ultrasound by exploring various types of clinical cases. Each case begins with a description of the patient's presentation, and is followed with clips and images supporting the case. The majority of cases also include interactive multimedia questions, which test your knowledge on the different aspects of bedside ultrasound, including: interpretation, management, and scanning techniques.

This section also allows you to review clips and images of different clinical scenarios. The "Overlay" function enables you to turn on/off legends and superimposed images on the clips being viewed. This function also highlights relevant features and abnormalities, and outlines the description of findings for all of the clips and images.

The Clinical Cases are classified by category (e.g. Cardiac, Vascular, Thoracic, etc.) and subcategory (Cardiac into left ventricle, right ventricle, pericardium, etc.).

Activating the "Case of the Week" feature allows you to receive a weekly email invitation to new cases posted in the Learning Center. This feature keeps you regularly exposed to various ultrasound clips and images, allowing for continuous education.

If you wish to become a contributor and submit your own case, simply click on "become a contributor."

Atlas of Cases

The goal of this section is to enhance your interpretation skills through the review of clips and images in different categories and subcategories of clinical cases.

The “Overlay” function allows you to turn on/off legends and superimposed images on the clips being viewed. The “Overlay” function also highlights relevant features and any abnormalities, and outlines the description of findings for all of the clips and images.

Assessment of Cardiac Function

The goal of this section is to help you practice the assessment of global and regional left ventricular systolic function and enhance your interpretation skills.

A series of cases are offered which review the following Focused Cardiac Ultrasound views: parasternal long-axis, parasternal short-axis, apical four chamber, and subcostal four chamber. After reviewing the different views, you will be asked to provide an estimate of the ventricular function based on subjective assessment of function, ejection fraction and the presence of regional abnormalities. Once you've submitted your answers, you will be provided with the correct ones, including highlights of the regional wall motion abnormalities, if present. Once you have completed all the cases, you will have the option to shuffle and repeat them.

Journal Club

The goal of the Journal Club is to provide you with an up-to-date review of all current and past literature on bedside ultrasound. You will be able to easily navigate and read pertinent articles. The Journal Club content is classified by categories, for example: Cardiac, Vascular and Thoracic.

This section allows you to upload articles, abstracts and posters related to bedside ultrasound. Original work and reviews of published/unpublished articles may be submitted. A summary of an article, abstract or poster can also be posted, and may include images, graphics, tables and videos. If an article is available for free on the internet, a link can be posted to allow viewers to download these free resources directly.

If you wish to become a contributor and submit your own case, simply click on “become a contributor.”
